" No winter lasts forever.  No spring skips its turn." ~ Hal Borland

February Break seems like a distant memory already with all that is happening this week.  Somerville is humming and everyone's spirits are high.  My mother used to warn us that the time between February and April Breaks is the "meatiest" time of the year; once again, she was spot on!  Our students have "hit their grooves" and the light bulbs are popping on all over the place.  It is a pleasure to watch.  Below is a list of things happening in and around school to keep you organized during the busy month of March.  Enjoy.
  • SCIENCE FAIR:  I hope to see our gym packed with projects and visitors tonight at 7 PM!  Come and enjoy the hard work of our scientists.
  • KINDNESS DRIVE FOR MARCH:  Next month we are collecting cans/bottles of juice for the Ridgewood Social Services Food Pantry.  The collection ends on March 9th and I invite everyone to send in at least one item.  Your children love putting their can in the bucket and getting a high five from me each month!
  • WELLNESS SERIES CONTINUES:  Join us on March 14th at 7 PM in the GW Auditorium for a special presentation by Johanna Kandel: Life Beyond Your Eating Disorder.  These speakers have been outstanding and provide wonderful information for parents.
  • JUMP ROPE FOR HEART:  $5961 was raised!  Thank you for all who participated.
  • REPORT CARDS POSTED:  March 21st in Skyward.  Log in to celebrate the wonderful progress your student is making at Somerville School!
  • SCT WEEKEND:  Don't miss the show the weekend of March 24th!  Seussical The Musical!  Our talented students never disappoint!
Enjoy the lovely weather today and try walking/biking to school with your child tomorrow while this great weather lasts.  That time together is priceless!
Fondly,
Dr. Oates

SNOW DAY AUTOMATED PHONE CALL - It has come to our attention that some families did not receive an automated phone call regarding the recent snow day.  If you did not receive this call, please check your phone number on Skyward.  If you need further assistance please contact Sue Pauley or Carla Nebbia in the main office.

INTERNATIONAL DAY SURVEY - International Day questionaire forms will be going home today in your child's backpack.  Please take a minute to help your child complete this form and return it to your child's teacher.  Thank you for taking the time to participate in our exciting International Day!

TEACHER APPRECIATION BREAKFAST - THANK YOU to the committee chairs Jamie Cariddi and Elizabeth Coleman, and to all the committee members for providing a yummy, delicious, and much appreciated breakfast for our teachers!  The teachers and staff thoroughly enjoyed it, so thank YOU again to all, for all your efforts to making it a very special morning for them!

RIDGEWOOD CELEBRATES NATIONAL POETRY MONTH in April by creating a poem from a piece of art or creating a piece of art from a poem and then displaying it in the Ridgewood library children’s section. Here’s another opportunity to participate in your child’s class! This year we have decided that Somerville will create a Haiku style poem from a painting we currently have hanging in our collection. Larisa Shlahet has created this wonderful power point presentation that makes the project simple. Details and the presentation itself will be sent home via Class Parents this week. All posters created for the project need to be submitted by March 31st so they can be hung in the  library. Thank you!
